Reddit o cómo noquear a Wall Street
Un grupo de pequeños inversores hizo temblar a los lobos de la bolsa
El mundo financiero viene temblando desde hace unas semanas, cuando REDDIT, un grupo de foreros que se toman la bolsa como un juego, y son bastante críticos de Wall Street, intervino levantando el precio de las acciones de empresas quebradas, a partir de la compra minorista masiva de acciones de esas empresas, generando un caos en el mundo de las inversiones.
Los lobos de la bolsa utilizaban las acciones de empresas como GameStop o Blockbuster para hacer inversiones a corto, como se las conocen, a través de un sistema de pedir prestadas las acciones de empresas que vienen en caída, venderlas, y cuando cae el precio de sus acciones las recompran y las devuelven, quedándose en el medio con la ganancia.
Para que se entienda mejor, supongamos que pedimos prestadas acciones por u$s 10.000, las vendemos en la bolsa, y luego esas acciones caen, entonces las recompramos por u$s 5.000, quedándonos con la diferencia. Un negocio redondo.
En general, este tipo de operaciones se realiza con empresas que van quedando en el camino por diferentes cuestiones, sobre todo la tecnológica. Tal es el caso de GameStop, que disparó la locura en Wall Street, o la de BlockBuster que vienen cayendo a partir de la salida de las plataformas de streaming.
Así, los foreros de REDDIT decidieron castigar a los fondos buitres, y salieron a comprar acciones de estas empresas, generando impresionantes pérdidas en varios gigantes de la bolsa como Melvin o Citron Research, quiénes dijeron al gobierno de EE.UU. que si esto continuaba tendrían que declarar la quiebra, y solicitaba a ese gobierno, algo que nunca quisieron, regulaciones.
Así, de la noche a la mañana, pequeños inversores, que compraron acciones por u$s mil ganaron un buen dinero, dado que acciones que valían 0,0033 centavos, pasaron a costar u$s 18 en cuestión de días. Esto no sólo enloqueció a los lobos, sino que los dejo heridos de muerte. Aunque están haciendo todo lo posible por revertir esta situación.
La bicicleta de apostar a que las acciones caerán ha generado mucho daño en el mundo de la timba financiera, y habrá que ver si continua esta forma de hacer negocios que ya tiene algunos años. Por ahora pareciera que todo camina a normalizarse en la mayor bolsa del mundo. Pero no sólo el susto fue grande, sino también las pérdidas, y David le ha dado una buena lección a Goliat.
