Golpe de Estado en Myanmar: miles de birmanos se movilizaron en una protesta histórica

Las grandes ciudades del país fueron testigos de una masiva movilización popular, similar a las de 2007.

Los ciudadanos de Myanmar salieron a las calles al grito de «¡Queremos democracia!». Vestidos de rojo, y haciendo el saludo de tres dedos popularizado por movimientos prodemocráticos de Asia, los birmanos tomaron las calles de Rangún y las demás grandes ciudades. Predominan carteles de protesta y afiches pidiendo la liberación del cuadro democrático.

El descontento ante el nuevo Gobierno Militar es generalizado: la detención de Aung San Suu Kyi enfureció a sus seguidores. La líder, ganadora de un Nobel de la Paz en 1991, alentó a sus seguidores a rebelarse. En la calle las protestas eran tímidas, limitadas a algún cacerolazo o bocinazos. Sin embargo, Facebook fue el campo de batalla para los cientos de miles ciudadanos que hicieron público su rechazo al golpe. La respuesta oficial fue la clausura del Internet y las redes en el país: recién ayer al mediodía los clientes de las operadoras pudieron volver a acceder a la red.

La agencia France Presse recogió algunos testimonios de los manifestantes, entre ellos: “No terminaremos esta revolución hasta que hagamos historia. Lucharemos hasta el final”. Otros ciudadanos declaraban: “No podemos aceptar el golpe. Este es nuestro futuro. Tenemos que salir a protestar”. Para el pueblo birmano queda claro que la irrupción militar aísla al país del escenario internacional, y lo retrotrae a las 5 décadas que Myanmar vivió bajo control del Ejército.

Rangún, la ciudad más poblada del país, fue el epicentro de las protestas. Allí los manifestantes se reunieron en el Ayuntamiento y se marcharon hacia la pagoda de Sule. Este último lugar fue clave en las marchas de 2007, protagonizadas por monjes budistas. En aquellos sucesos la policía asesinó a disparos a 3 monjes.

Por el momento el Ejército no declaró al respecto, y la movilización fue pasiva. Sin embargo, las dudas respecto a la situación de Aung San Suu Kyi y los demás miembros de la Liga Nacional para la Democracia encienden el descontento popular.
