El Ministerio de Salud de la Provincia, a través de CUCAI San Luis y el Banco de Sangre, pone en marcha una nueva campaña para captar donantes. Será durante cuatro jornadas en la Plaza Pringles de la capital puntana. También se recolectará plasma de convalecientes de COVID-19.

Esta campaña se realiza en conmemoración del Día Nacional del Donante de Médula Ósea que se celebra el 1º de abril. Las actividades comenzarán este miércoles 10 de marzo, de 9:00 a 12:00, en la Plaza Pringles de la ciudad de San Luis, sobre calle Rivadavia frente a la Iglesia Catedral. Se extenderán durante todo el mes una vez por semana: el miércoles 17, el jueves 25 y culminará el miércoles 31. En el lugar, se abrirá un registro para aquellos que quieran anotarse como donantes de médula ósea, órganos, tejidos y plasma de donantes convalecientes de COVID-19.

Año a año se conmemora este día con la intención de compartir con la comunidad la importancia de donar médula ósea como un acto de donar vida.

De acuerdo al Instituto Nacional Central Único Coordinador de Ablación e Implante (INCUCAI), cada año a cientos de personas se les diagnostican enfermedades hematológicas (por ejemplo, leucemia, anemia aplásica, linfoma, mieloma, errores metabólicos o déficits inmunológicos). Ahora bien, estas enfermedades pueden ser tratadas con un trasplante de Células Progenitoras Hematopoyéticas (CPH), conocido popularmente como trasplante de médula ósea.

Sin embargo, solo entre un 25 % y un 30 % de estos pacientes tienen la posibilidad de encontrar un donante compatible en su grupo familiar. Los demás deben recurrir a un donante no emparentado. Para facilitar el acceso a dicha práctica, existen los registros de donantes voluntarios.

El Registro Nacional de Donantes de CPH argentino, creado por la Ley 25.392, funciona dentro del INCUCAI y forma parte de la Red internacional Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW), que agrupa registros de más de 40 países.

Inscribirse como donante es un acto solidario y voluntario que busca facilitar los trasplantes de CPH a pacientes que no poseen donantes compatibles en su grupo familiar. Cuanto más variantes genéticas de donantes inscriptos existen, mayores son las posibilidades de los pacientes de encontrar una respuesta adecuada a la necesidad de trasplante.
