Vacunación: Argentina aplicará Moderna en adolescentes

Se decidió tras la aprobación de la aplicación pediátrica en Europa. Los designados tendrán entre 12 y 17 años.

Luego de que la Agencia Europea de Medicina -EMA- aprobara la aplicación pediátrica de la vacuna Moderna, desarrollada en Estados Unidos, Argentina anunció que será utilizada para vacunar jóvenes entre 12 y 17 años con patologías de riesgo.

Hace algunos días comenzó a debatirse la posibilidad de iniciar la inoculación en adolescentes en el país. Según la ministra de Salud, Carla Vizzotti, la posibilidad de que en agosto pudieran inocular a este sector etario dependía del ingreso de vacunas, aunque debían esperar la autorización sanitaria.

«Una vez que lo aprueba la FDA (Administración de Medicamentos y Alimentos de Estados Unidos) y la EMA, como son entidades regulatorias de alta vigilancia, Argentina siente que puede dar la autorización para el uso de emergencia y en esta situación particular, con la autorización el país de origen, es suficiente», afirmó Vizzotti.

Mientras esperaban la autorización, el Gobierno nacional decidió almacenar el envío de 3.500.000 unidades de la vacuna Moderna en el centro de logística de Andreani. Finalmente dicha vacuna fue aprobada para ser usada en niños, adolescentes y jóvenes con factores de riesgo.

La semana que viene habrá reunión del Consejo Federal de Salud -Cofesa- : decidirán la segmentación y la modalidad de implementación. Es posible que se formalice el inicio de la vacunación a menores tras el encuentro.

La vacuna Moderna es una de las más efectivas del mercado: posee una eficacia del 94,1% en casos sintomáticos. Asimismo, los estudios realizados por la EMA revelaron buenos resultados en el uso con pacientes menores, y buena respuesta contra las variantes más recientes de Coronavirus.
