A veces el bolsillo decide: los aumentos de la nafta aquejan a miles de puntanos, que cada vez más eligen convertir sus vehículos a GNC. Los bajos costos operativos y la mayor eficiencia de este sistema permiten transportarse a un menor precio. Es por eso que este primer semestre las conversiones crecieron un 60% en comparación al año pasado, según informó el Ente Nacional Regulador del Gas.

El primer semestre del año pasado se colocaron 686 equipos en la provincia. Este año se colocaron 1106 equipos de GNC en el mismo periodo, pese al aumento de precio de los equipos de GNC. Según Jorge Tamagnone, propietario de un taller de GNC en la capital provincial, la demanda creció y llegaron a tener picos altos de colocaciones. Para Tamagnone fue llamativo el número de clientes que se acercaron a reinstalar los equipos en sus autos.

Quienes más se acercan a modificar sus autos son los transportistas y taxistas. “Ellos cambian la unidad más seguido, por lo que amortizan mucho más rápido los gastos. Ahora no tan solo lo hacemos en autos convencionales, sino también de alta gama”, afirmó Tamagnone.

Sin embargo, la inflación también llega a estos equipos. Actualmente los equipos de quinta generación superan los $100.000 en algunos casos, cuando el año pasado rondaban los $87.000. Aunque los costos de instalación son elevados, para Tamagnone los valores de circular a GNC hacen que siempre sea conveniente utilizar este combustible. En la provincia el metro cúbico de GNC ronda los $50, mientras que la nafta se encuentra a más del doble de precio y es un combustible menos eficiente.

¿Rompe el auto?

Los expertos en GNC consideran que se trata de un mito, sobre todo con las mejoras tecnológicas que tuvieron los equipos modernos. Con equipos de cuarta o quinta generación los vehículos no sufren daños, sino que pueden prolongar su vida útil.

Asimismo, destacaron que es una alternativa mucho más amigable con el medio ambiente. En Europa y Estados Unidos los vehículos salen de fábrica con propulsión a GNC. A este tipo de vehículos les vale la etiqueta «Eco» debido al bajo nivel de emisiones que generan.
