Los rubros no logran encasillar a este vecino de la ciudad de San Luis: a Carlos lo defino como un creador. Entre risas me comentó como descubrió su pasión por los objetos, y algunas locuras cometidas en el camino.

La quinta entrega de #EmprendedoresenPandemia se dio en un tono muy particular. Una típica llamada telefónica terminó virando en una charla de lo más entretenida. Nuestro interlocutor fue un personaje entrañable: Carlos Rosales, un vecino de la ciudad de San Luis. No puedo apegarme a una profesión para describirlo, porque el «Cata», como lo llaman sus amigos, hizo, vivió y pensó de todo.

A Carlos lo defino como un creador: forjó su camino mirando, leyendo y ensuciándose. Es administrador de empresas, aunque no ejerce la profesión. A el le gusta crear objetos, y darle nueva vida a aquellos que llevan tiempo con nosotros. El se considera un autodidacta: su infancia lo acercó a los objetos antiguos, de energías increíbles, y el legado de su madre lo ayuda a enriquecer su sentido de la estética.

Tuvimos el agrado de conversar con el sobre su vida, sus gustos y algunas locuras que hizo en el camino. La entrevista se reproduce a continuación:

-¿A qué te dedicas?

-Tengo un título en diseño de interiores: empecé con el diseño de interiores y la construcción en seco cuando tenía 32 años, y ahora ya tengo 45. Hice de todo, desde restauración de muebles antiguos hasta construcción de muebles en melamina. Los placares y las cocinas son mi fuerte, pero con las antigüedades me quedó un gusto especial.

-¿Cómo descubriste que te gustaban las tareas de restauración?

-Empezó cuando mis viejos se divorciaron y me fui a vivir a General Pico con mi papá, que es pampeano. El compró una casa muy antigua cerca del centro y trabajamos mucho con el y un amigo suyo, que era carpintero honoris causa. Me enseñó cosas básicas, y me puse a laburar con las puertas de la casa. Era una casa vieja: las puertas medían dos metros y medio, los techos eran altos y las escaleras de mármol estaban gastadas al medio de tanto pasar.

Lo que más me atrajo era la idea de recuperar algo que estaba abandonado y traerlo nuevamente a la vida: es la esencia de mi trabajo, porque disfruto la transformación de las cosas. Cuando vi el cambio en las puertas dije «¡Wow!». En el momento que encontré la madera, atrás de tantas capas de pintura, me enamoré. Era increíble ver como quedó: esfuerzo traducido a estética.

Fue una búsqueda personal, en mi casa no había ni un martillo.

-Excelente, te fogueaste solo con los materiales. ¿Qué valor le das a tu trabajo? ¿Cómo te hace sentir darle nueva vida a los objetos y los espacios?

-Son mi vida los objetos: soy un gran acumulador. No solo junto antigüedades, tengo hasta piedras y fósiles. El valor del objeto para mí reside en el cuidado que se le dio hasta la actualidad. También importa la energía que tiene ese objeto: no creo que las cosas viejas tengan esa energía triste y cargada que por lo general se les atribuye. Tienen una energía espectacular, que se relaciona al cuidado que se le dio.

En el caso que algo llegue dañado, yo me encargo. No importa el objeto en sí, sino la persona atrás de cada objeto. Una persona que invirtió tiempo, esfuerzo y trabajo. Implica mucho el objeto, más allá de su valor económico.

-¿De donde sacas inspiración para tus creaciones?

-Me gusta mucho leer. Nunca estudié artes pero pinto hace años, y amo el arte. Leo, miro y me inspiro. Mi vieja era docente y me dejó una gran biblioteca, que hoy por hoy es mi tesoro. De chico no la podía ni mirar, pero es el legado que me dejó ella.

En esa biblioteca hay mucho arte: ahora voy por el sexto tomo de «Historia Universal del Arte». He visto desde arte del neolítico hasta arte islámico. Pero ahí está la clave de aprender: te abre la cabeza y de ahí podes ir a donde quieras. A mi me gusta mucho el expresionismo abstracto, y de ahí saco mucha información.

-Genial. Vos hace un rato me dijiste en un audio que estabas en tu «otra casa», tu taller. ¿Cómo te sentís cuando estás ahí, al momento de trabajar los materiales?

-En realidad es mi casa de toda la vida. El problema es que es más casa que taller, y yo necesito un lugar que sea más taller que casa. Entonces la estoy vendiendo, y voy sacando las cosas del lugar: solo quedan algunas antigüedades mías y cosas de clientes. Está media desmembrada la casa, porque estoy en proceso de destete después de vivir acá tantos años. Me estoy yendo para hacerme un taller: a mi casa la voy a hacer yo. Cómo tengo experiencia en construcción en seco, me gustaría armar algo con estilo nórdico.

-Excelente. ¿De los trabajos que has hecho, cual fue el que más te gustó o el que más recordas?

-¿En que rubro?

–Puede ser de lo que vos quieras, podes contarme sobre alguna restauración o algún diseño que hayas hecho.

-Mi obra más grande fue un bar, que abrí a los 24 años. Se llamaba Pitón y lo hice sin saber absolutamente nada de diseño. Lo armé en el año 2002 y fue muy conocido: era un after-hour con un terrario y una víbora. A la víbora la eligió mi hijo a los 5 años, y ahora tiene 24. Fue el primer bar temático de San Luis: en esa época no había ni after-hours ni ninguna víbora adentro de ningún terrario por acá cerca (risas).

Yo tenía todas esas de ideas de chico, y todo en un tono muy artístico. Fue todo un mambo cuidar una víbora, me encantó. Cuando me fui a Buenos Aires la dejé con una gente que tenía licencia y quedó en buenas manos. En esa época había menos quilombos que ahora, pero igualmente tenía un chip, una guía de traslado y no se que más. Había, y hay que ser muy responsable.

Yo fui a dárselas y me quisieron pagar 150 dólares. No era mi idea, pero la víbora quedó feliz y con novio, porque tenían un macho en ese lugar también. Al final, todo tiene que ver con todo: yo miro para atrás y me acuerdo de esas cosas y digo: «Que pendejo zarpado». Era un desubicado, me decían «el infierno». Y yo nada que ver, estaba en casa haciendo muebles de Mafalda (risas).

Me gusta rescatar eso último, para que veas que lo que uno hace, proyecta y es visto por otros no es la intención de uno.
