Hazaña: dos náufragos sobrevivieron 29 días con naranjas, cocos y agua de lluvia

Se trata de dos hombres del sudoeste de Asia que viajaban por las islas del Mar de Salomón, hasta que una tormenta los sorprendió.

El viaje que habían planeado Livae Nanjikana y Junior Qoloni, dos hombres de Islas Salomón que viajaban en una pequeña embarcación por el sudoeste asiático, terminó convirtiéndose en una auténtica odisea. Ambos habían emprendido viaje desde las Islas Salomón, con la intención de recorrer las aguas del mar homónimo. Sin embargo, poco después de salir una tormenta los sorprendió y los dejó a la deriva en aguas abiertas.

La pequeña embarcación en la que circulaban Nanjikana y Qoloni tenía unos siete metros de largo y se transformó en su refugio durante 29 días: en ese tiempo solamente ingirieron naranjas, cocos que encontraban flotando y agua de lluvia. La tormenta hizo que pierdan de vista tierra firme, y para la noche la batería de su GPS se había acabado. Ante ese escenario, los náufragos debieron sobrevivir bajo el penetrante sol oceánico.

Ya perdidos, los salomonenses apagaron el motor de su bote y se refugiaron bajo cubierta, debido a las fuertes lluvias que alejaban cada vez más su embarcación de las islas. Pasaron 9 días ingiriendo las naranjas que habían llevado para el viaje: tras agotarlas debieron ingeniárselas para recolectar agua de lluvia. Su único alimento eran los cocos que encontraban flotando en mar abierto.

Nanjikana, quien narró la hazaña a la Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, sostuvo: «Dios nos aconsejó construir un dispositivo para navegar, y así construimos una estructura similar a un árbol usando remos y tela y zarpamos siguiendo la dirección del viento». El hombre sostuvo que rezaban día y noche junto a Qoloni.

Con el paso de los días, las aguas los llevaron hacia la isla de Nueva Britania, a 400 kilómetros de Papúa Nueva Guinea. Allí fueron divisados por un pescador que los rescató.
