INVESTIGADORES ARGENTINOS INVESTIGA UNA CURA CONTRA EL CÁNCER
Científicos del Conicet junto con investigadores de la Fundación Sales, se encuentran en pleno trabajo sobre diferentes métodos para abordar el tratamiento de la enfermedad.
Tres equipos de científicos del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (Conicet) y Cáncer con Ciencia, de la Fundación Sales, trabajan en torno a la inmunoterapia para la cura del cáncer a través de una vacuna, en nuevas terapias para el cáncer de mama y en el estudio del rol de una proteína, informó el Conicet.
Uno de estos avances es la vacuna terapéutica Vaccimel, que «demostró activar una fuerte respuesta inmune contra el melanoma», luego de décadas de investigación, sostuvo el doctor José Mordoh, líder del equipo de científicos.
La vacuna obtuvo la aprobación de la Administración Nacional de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Tecnología Médica (Anmat) para comenzar la última etapa del ensayo clínico, y se espera que para fin de este año ya esté disponible para tratar el melanoma, el más grave cáncer de piel.
«Lo interesante del estudio es que también pudimos determinar que el tratamiento con Vaccimel es compatible con los llamados ‘inhibidores de los puntos de control inmunológico’, un tipo de inmunoterapia que en los últimos años ha probado mejorar enormemente las perspectivas de estos pacientes», señaló Mordoh.
Y agregó que «la combinación de ambos tratamientos es segura y potenciaría la respuesta inmune contra este agresivo tumor de la piel».
De esta forma, los resultados mostraron que los pacientes tratados con Vaccimel recayeron a los 96 meses, mientras que el 50% de los pacientes tratados con interferón (una sustancia natural que ayuda al sistema inmunitario a combatir el cáncer) lo hicieron a los 13 meses, al tiempo que la vacuna inhibió la metástasis del tumor a otros órganos.
