SE TRASLADARÁN LOS RESTOS DEL CORONEL PRINGLES AL MONUMENTO PUNTANO DE LA INDEPENDENCIA
La Cámara de Diputados sancionó por unanimidad este miércoles la ley que establece el traslado de los restos del coronel Juan Pascual Pringles desde la Catedral al Monumento Puntano de la Independencia. Los restos mortales de Pringles están en la Catedral desde hace 58 años.
“En lo personal y para todos los puntanos es un día muy importante en donde se dispone trasladas los restos del coronel Juan Pascual Pringles quien es nuestro máximo héroe puntano”, fueron algunas de las palabras del diputado oficialista Marcelo Páez Logioia.
El legislador detalló que Pringles falleció en 1831 y fue enterrado en una tumba anónima para “resguardar su integridad”. Luego fue trasladado al cementerio de la iglesia Matriz, actual plaza Independencia, pero tiempo después, los restos fueron trasladados al cementerio Central, actual San José en el centro de la ciudad.
El 27 de octubre de 1948 se aprueba una ley para que los restos de Pringles fueran llevados a la iglesia Catedral, pero el traslado se realizó recién el el domingo 21 de julio de 1968.
Teniendo en cuenta la sanción de la ley habrá que ver cuándo se materializa el traslado de Pringles al al Monumento Puntano de la Independencia, ubicado en Las Chacras e inaugurado en 1991.
Pringles participó en la campaña libertadora de José de San Martín al Perú y peleó en varios combates. En la perdida batalla de Chancay, el 27 de noviembre de 1821, Pringles al verse superado en número por el enemigo realista, se metió en caballo al mar para no entregar los mensajes en su poder. El mito dice que se tiró al mar con la bandera. Ante tal acto, el general realista mandó a salvarlo, le perdonó la vida y mandó a destruir los mensajes.
“El caballeresco coronel realista Gerónimo Valdez, viendo que el jinete no podía dominar el caballo encabritado entre el oleaje, le gritó desde la orilla: ‘¡Ríndase usted, señor oficial, que la vida le garantizo! ¿Qué más quiere hacer por su honor personal y el de su ejército?’ Pringles aceptó que lo sacaran de las torrentosas aguas. Los realistas lo trataron con toda consideración y lo llevaron preso a las Casas Matas de El Callao. Meses más tarde, San Martín logró rescatarlo en un canje de cautivos. En el orden del día, expresó que Pringles había actuado con gran valor, pero con imprudencia, y que ‘sólo el ejemplo extraordinario de su bravura lo salvó de las leyes militares’. Se otorgó a él y a sus granaderos un escudo de paño con la leyenda bordada ‘Gloria a los vencedores en Chancay’”, dice un artículo de El Orden de Pringles.
Años más tarde, en la Guerra Civil, formó parte del ejército unitario de Juan Lavalle en contra de los federales encabezados por Juan Manuel Dorrego. “Con escasos y agotados hombres, llegó al paraje de Chañaral de las Ánimas, ya en territorio puntano. Allí lo alcanzó una partida del Tigre de los Llanos.
El historiador Juan Beverina narra que ese día, 18 de marzo de 1831, cuando lo alcanzaron las fuerzas federales, Pringles, ‘teniendo su caballo cansado, echó pie a tierra. A la intimación que le hizo un oficial para que se rindiese, contestó afirmativamente, pero se negó a entregar la espada diciendo que se la daría solamente al propio Quiroga. El oficial descerrajó un tiro que le atravesó el pecho y causó la muerte al valiente oficial de las guerras de la independencia’”, dice el artículo citado.
“Según el historiador Antonio Zinny, al enterarse Quiroga de la muerte de Pringles, hizo llamar al oficial que lo había ejecutado, y le dijo: ‘¡Por no manchar con tu sangre el cuerpo del valiente coronel Pringles, no te hago pegar cuatro tiros sobre su cadáver! ¡Cuidado con otra vez que un rendido invoque mi nombre!’”. Pringles tenía 35 años.
