Dos personas murieron, entre ellas un niño de seis años, y al menos otras cinco resultaron heridas en un atentado con automóvil cerca del barrio Ramot de Jerusalén, informó la policía y los médicos.
La policía informó que el autor del ataque fue “neutralizado” y que además hay cinco heridos, dos de ellos en estado grave. Fue identificado como Hussein Qaraqa, ciudadano israelí y residente en el barrio de Issawiya, en Jerusalén Este, de acuerdo a información de The Times of Israel.
El atropello ocurrió en una parada de autobús en Ramot, un asentamiento judío en Jerusalén Este. Las tensiones en la mitad oriental de la ciudad han aumentado desde que un palestino matara a disparos a siete personas el 27 de enero. Fue el ataque más letal registrado en Jerusalén en más de una década.
Los médicos trataron a todos los heridos, entre los que había también otro niño en estado crítico. Los más graves fueron sometidos a reanimación cardiopulmonar, explicó el servicio de emergencias israelí. Dos de las víctimas estaban inconscientes y tenían un pronóstico grave, mientras que otras dos sufrieron heridas moderadas.
“Cuando llegamos al lugar de los hechos, el espectáculo fue estremecedor”, dijo Shraga Rosenthal, médico de la MDA, el servicio nacional de emergencia “Vimos un coche cerca de la estación de autobuses tras atropellar a los peatones que esperaban en la estación”, precisó, según The Times of Israel.
“Vimos a seis víctimas tendidas unas junto a otras, entre ellas, dos eran niños de unos 6 años que estaban inconscientes y presentaban traumatismos multisistémicos graves”, añadió.
Las víctimas fueron trasladadas a los hospitales Shaare Zedek y Hadassah Mount Scopus de Jerusalén.
La oficina de Benjamín Netanyahu informó que el primer ministro estaba recibiendo información actualizada sobre el ataque y que había decidido precintar el domicilio del atacante, según The Times of Israel. El mandatario calificó el incidente de atentado terrorista y ordenó reforzar las fuerzas de seguridad.
Desde la Franja de Gaza, tanto el movimiento terrorista Hamás como el grupo Yihad Islámica Palestina (YIP) celebraron el ataque.
“La heroica operación en Jerusalén es la respuesta natural a los crímenes de la ocupación (israelí) contra el pueblo palestino”, señaló Hamás en un comunicado.
La Yihad Islámica, por su parte, indicó que este ataque muestra que “el pueblo palestino seguirá resistiendo la ocupación hasta su desaparición”.
El incidente de hoy se produce en una escalada de violencia en la región que ha dejado 52 muertos en lo que va del año: 43 palestinos y nueve personas del lado israelí.
Israel reclama la totalidad de la ciudad de Jerusalén como su capital indivisa. Los palestinos quieren que la parte oriental sea la capital de su futuro estado.
