CONFIRMARON EN CHILE PRIMER CASO DE GRIPE AVIAR EN HUMANOS
El Ministerio de Salud de Chile confirmó este miércoles el primer caso de gripe aviar H5N1 en humanos, un hombre de 53 años, residente en la zona norte del país trasandino.
A través de un comunicado, el organismo certificó que el infectado padece un cuadro de «influenza grave», pero advirtió que se encuentra estable, ingresado en un nosocomio local.
«Se investiga la fuente de contacto y si existen antecedentes de otros afectados en el entorno del paciente», añadió el ministerio en el documento. Además, en la nota se especificó que «El virus H5N1 o ‘gripe aviar’ es un virus que se puede transmitir desde aves o mamíferos marinos al ser humano, aunque no se conocen casos de contagios de humano a humano», pero instaron a la población a «no manipular aves o mamíferos enfermos o muertos».
Por su parte, el Instituto de Salud Pública confirmó el diagnóstico a dos semanas de que se conociera que «una empresa avícola afectada por el virus, sacrificó unas 50 mil aves».
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), en tanto, llamó a inicios de febrero a la vigilancia ante el riesgo de transmisión de la gripe aviar a mamíferos tras detectar casos en zorros, nutrias y leones marinos.
En humanos la gripe aviar puede causar enfermedades respiratorias, con fiebre y tos, problemas gastrointestinales, neumonía, choque séptico, síndrome de distrés respiratorio agudo o incluso la muerte.
