UNA VACUNA PERMITIRÁ REDUCIR UN 75% EL TIEMPO DE TRATAMIENTO DE ALGUNOS TIPOS DE CÁNCER
El Sistema Nacional de Salud del Reino Unido (NHS) anunció la implementación de Tecentriq, una vacuna contra ciertos tipos de cáncer como los de pulmón, hígado, vejiga y mama. Gracias a ella, cientos de pacientes podrán pasar menos tiempo en unidades de quimioterapia.
El Sistema Nacional de Salud del Reino Unido (NHS) anunció la implementación de una nueva vacuna contra ciertos tipos de cáncer que reduce el tiempo de tratamiento hasta en un 75%.
La Agencia Reguladora de Medicamentos y Productos Sanitarios (MHRA) autorizó para pacientes en el Reino Unido el uso de la primera inyección subcutánea de una inmunoterapia contra el cáncer anti-PD-(L)1, conocida como Tecentriq SC (atezolizumab) y desarrollada por Roche, que demostró una eficacia sin precedentes con un tiempo de administración que dura apenas siete minutos.
En comparación, los tratamientos intravenosos convencionales suelen requerir entre 30 y 60 minutos para ser administrados.
La inmunoterapia Tecentriq SC estará disponible para pacientes con ciertos tipos de cáncer, incluidos pulmón, vejiga, mama e hígado.
«Mantener la mejor calidad de vida posible para los pacientes con cáncer es vital, por lo que la introducción de inyecciones subcutáneas más rápidas marcará una diferencia importante», señaló en un comunicado Peter Johnson, director nacional de Cáncer del NHS.
El funcionario dijo que la introducción mundial de este tratamiento significará que cientos de pacientes podrán pasar menos en las unidades de quimioterapia del NHS.
«Administrar Tecentriq por vía subcutánea ahora ofrece a los pacientes una opción de tratamiento más rápido y flexible y puede liberar recursos para los sistemas sanitarios, manteniendo al mismo tiempo su perfil de seguridad establecido«, sostuvo, por su parte, Levi Garraway, director médico y de desarrollo global de productos de Roche.
El anuncio se produce como parte de los esfuerzos del NHS para brindar a los pacientes opciones de tratamiento más cómodas y eficientes.
La aprobación y el lanzamiento de esta vacuna contra el cáncer no conlleva ningún costo adicional para el NHS, gracias a un acuerdo de fijación de precios de medicamentos de cinco años negociados con la industria farmacéutica.
Esta iniciativa se suma a otras innovaciones recientes en el campo de la atención médica, como la introducción de la vacuna contra el cáncer Phesgo en 2021, que demostró reducir significativamente los tiempos de tratamiento y fue bien recibida por los pacientes.
