ECUADOR ESTÁ EN GUERRA CON LAS BANDAS CRIMINALES, ASEGURÓ EL PRESIDENTE NOBOA
El jefe de Estado nombró a 22 grupos delictivos como organizaciones terroristas y las convirtió, en consecuencia, en objetivos militares oficiales.
El presidente de Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, aseguró que ese país se encuentra en “estado de guerra” contra bandas criminales que operan en ese país, donde más de 130 guardias penitenciarios y otro personal seguían retenidos el miércoles por reclusos en al menos cinco cárceles, en una escalada de violencia que comenzó el fin de semana.
Noboa, quien asumió el cargo en noviembre con la promesa de combatir la violencia del narcotráfico, nombró el martes a 22 grupos delictivos como organizaciones terroristas, convirtiéndolas en objetivos militares oficiales.
«Estamos en un estado de guerra y no podemos ceder ante estos grupos terroristas», dijo Noboa a la radio Canela.
La retención de los agentes penitenciarios, que comenzó en las primeras horas del lunes, y el aparente escape de prisión el fin de semana del líder de la banda de Los Choneros, Adolfo Macías, llevaron a Noboa a declarar un estado de emergencia por 60 días, incluido un toque de queda nocturno.
El mandatario endureció el decreto el martes, tras una serie de explosiones en todo el país y la toma violenta de una estación de televisión por hombres armados en medio de la transmisión en vivo, declarando un «conflicto armado interno».
El Gobierno dijo que la violencia es una reacción al plan de Noboa de construir prisiones de alta seguridad y trasladar a los líderes de bandas delictivas encarcelados, en tanto que el mandatario dijo a la radio que el jueves dará detalles de las dos nuevas instalaciones.
«Estamos haciendo todo el esfuerzo para recuperar a todos los rehenes y no vamos a ceder», explicó Noboa, y dijo que las Fuerzas Armadas se han hecho cargo de las tareas de rescate. “Estamos haciendo lo posible y lo imposible para traerlos a todos sanos y salvos”, indicó el jefe de Estado.
La agencia penitenciaria SNAI dijo el martes en un comunicado que 11 habían sido liberados. Agregó que 125 de los retenidos son guardias y 14 son personal administrativo.
