Coronavirus: confirman la presencia de la cepa británica en San Luis
Así lo confirmó la jefa del Servicio de Infectología del Hospital San Luis. La cepa se caracteriza por atacar con más frecuencia a grupos entre 20 a 59 años.
Hace un par de semanas la provincia había confirmado la circulación de una peligrosa cepa del Covid-19: la de Manaos. Ahora se suma la aparición en tierras puntanas de la cepa británica, una de las que más problemas ha causado en el viejo continente.
Cristela Aguilera, jefa del Servicio de Infectología del Hospital San Luis, subrayó la participación provincial en el proyecto de vigilancia geonómica de Coronavirus. Lo dicho significa que San Luis es una de las jurisdicciones encargadas de velar por la detección de nuevas variantes del virus en el país.
De las muestras tomadas explicó: “Se tomó un 10% de muestras al azar de diferentes lugares de la provincia. Los resultados nos informaron que un 46,7% de las muestras fueron tipificadas como la variante Manaos y que un 10% corresponden a la variante del Reino Unido”.
Al igual que la cepa de Manaos, la variante británica se caracteriza por su alta transmisibilidad, su capacidad de contagio y el elevado riesgo de reinfección. «Ambas variantes tienen mayor probabilidad de internación, ya sea en sala común como en unidades de cuidados críticos”, advirtió.
Otro de los problemas que conlleva la cepa en cuestión es la recurrencia con la que ataca a grupos que no suelen considerarse de riesgo. Según Aguilera, los informes arrojaron que esta variante afecta al grupo etario entre 20 y 59 años, y personas sin comorbilidades. Esto supondría un porcentaje aún mayor de casos críticos, en un sistema de salud casi al límite.
Por último, instó a los puntanos a mejorar los cuidados esenciales y a cumplir los protocolos.
