Desde la Organización Mundial de la Salud invitaron a ser activos con regularidad, para obtener beneficios saludables y promover la actividad física como un derecho universal. También reclamó por la inclusión de las comunidades desfavorecidas y las personas con discapacidades o enfermedades crónicas.

Ayer jueves la Organización Mundial de la Salud -OMS- acercó una serie de recomendaciones y sostuvo que la actividad física podría evitar 5 millones de muertes al año. En este sentido, remarcó sus beneficios para la salud física, mental y social y explicó que “la actividad física ya no se puede considerar como un componente ‘bonito’ para incluir en la política pública». Para la OMS la actividad física regular es uno de los pilares para la edificación de poblaciones más sanas.

También aseguró que las mujeres, las comunidades desfavorecidas y quienes padecen discapacidades o enfermedades crónicas tienen mayor tendencia a permanecer inactivas. Zsusanna Jakab, directora general de la OMS, manifestó: “Hay una necesidad urgente de ofrecer a las personas mejores oportunidades para llevar una vida activa y saludable”. La funcionaria también insistió en la importancia de incluir a estos grupos en la práctica deportiva regular, para universalizar los beneficios del deporte.

Recomendaciones

La lista de consejos incluye 60 minutos diarios de actividad física moderada a vigorosa para adolescentes. La elevada inactividad de este grupo es alarmante para la OMS: tres cuartos de la población agrupada en este sector no hacen caso a las directrices y no aprovechan los beneficios potenciales del deporte. En adultos la actividad recomendada es de 150 a 300 minutos de actividad física a la semana, principalmente aeróbica.

Sin embargo, señalaron que el acceso a este derecho es desigual e injusto a nivel mundial. Muchas personas carecen de espacios para practicar deporte de manera segura: cuando estos lugares existen no suelen ofrecer condiciones inclusivas para personas con discapacidad.

El informe también detalla que las mujeres suelen ser más inactivas que los hombres. El nivel de actividad física decrece conforme aumenta la renta de los países: en los países de renta baja la inactividad promedio es del 16%, pero en los países más ricos esa cifra aumenta al 37%.
