Dos baldazos de agua fría en cinco minutos le cayeron a los de Scaloni, que ya no saldrían más de ese estado de incredulidad.

Desde ese momento hasta el final, Argentina no supo cómo afrontar la adversidad. Ni siquiera los rápidos reflejos para cambiar de Scaloni -los ingresos de Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández y Lisandro Martínez- lograron sacar al equipo del estado de confusión. El posterior cambio de Acuña por Tagliafico potenció la idea de lastimar por las bandas, pero los intentos no fueron claros.
