La cifra de víctimas fatales por el terremoto en Siria y Turquía asciendió a más de 19.300 fallecidos

El número de muertos por los devastadores terremotos llega este jueves a casi 19.400, de los que 16.170 se han contabilizado en Turquía y 3.192 en Siria. Además hay unos 70.000 heridos de distinta consideración.
En Turquía el número de heridos alcanza los 64.194, mientras que el recuento de edificios derruidos por los temblores se mantiene igual respecto a ayer, con 6.444.
El último balance de víctimas lo ofreció el presidente de Turquía, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, que también denunció saqueos en algunas zonas y prometió una dura respuesta.
“Lamentablemente hay saqueos de mercados en algunos lugares. El Estado reacciona a eso mediante el estado de emergencia”, dijo el mandatario en una declaración pública en Gaziantep, una gran ciudad situada al este del epicentro del terremoto.

Por eso, mucha gente se preocupa ahora por llegar hasta los cuerpos sin vida de sus seres queridos y enterrarlos adecuadamente.
En declaraciones a la agencia de noticias Anka, Ovgun Ahmet Ercan, uno de los principales ingenieros geofísicos y expertos en terremotos del país, estimó en “unas 200.000″ el número de personas que permanecen bajo los edificios derrumbados.
Además, la policía del país detuvo a 18 personas por publicaciones “provocativas” en redes sociales que criticaban la respuesta gubernamental.
El frío agrava la situación. Aunque con temperaturas de -5 ºC, miles de familias en Gaziantep pasaron la noche en carros o tiendas de campaña al no poder volver a sus casas o tener demasiado miedo de hacerlo.
Los padres paseaban por las calles de esta ciudad del sureste de Turquía cargando a sus hijos, envueltos en mantas, porque pasaban menos frío que en las tiendas.
