Símbolos puntanos: El monumento al sacrificio puntano
El monumento al Pueblo Puntano de la Independencia expresa la abnegación y entrega de nuestra gente a la gesta nacional
Juana Koslay, a tan sólo unos minutos del centro de la Ciudad de San Luis, alberga una de las obras arquitectónicas más reconocida por nuestro pueblo puntano: el monumento al pueblo puntano de la independencia en honor al pueblo de San Luis por su participación en la gesta libertaria de nuestra patria. El mismo, fue emplazado en 1991 y conmemora la llamada del General San Martín a nuestro pueblo, el cual dio sus mártires para cumplir el sueño del libertador de América.
Fue en el campamento de las chacras en dónde se realizó la reunión de los valientes reclutas puntanos que participarían en la gesta patriótica del General San Martín, y fue el testigo de la organización del Regimiento de Granaderos a caballo que se preparó para las campañas de Chile y Perú. Debajo del monumento, se hallan los restos de los tres héroes de la localidad de Renca, Juanario Luna, José Gregorio Franco y Basilio Bustos, quienes dieron sus vidas por la causa nacional. Asimismo, se encuentra una réplica del estandarte de los Dragones de Chile, donado por San Martín como contribución al esfuerzo que realizó la provincia por la libertad de las américas.
Más allá de ser uno de los monumentos más grandes del país, su imagen evoca la valentía y el coraje que caracterizó a los puntanos, y logró plasmarse incorporando además, figuras notorias y sobresalientes de la época, como la del Gobernador Dupuy sosteniendo el pergamino con el pedido que le hiciera San Martín. Asimismo, el monumento cuenta con figuras de animales típicamente puntanos, y con personajes que representan la época como el chasqui, el religioso, el joven, la mujer, los campesinos, etc.
Nuestro monumento, además de ser una representación de un pedazo de nuestra historia, se fue convirtiendo a lo largo de los años, en un espacio turístico, rodeado de artesanos y dónde tanto puntanos como turistas de otras partes del país van a pasar el día, conocer nuestra historia y disfrutar de un hermoso paisaje. Valorar nuestra identidad cultural es algo que debemos hacer a diario, no sólo porque es nuestro orgullo, sino porque es parte de nuestro pasado, pero también de nuestro porvenir, y es parte del legado que vamos dejando a nuestros jóvenes puntanos, que ven como nuestra provincia revaloriza su cultura, su pensar, su sentir y todo aquello que la representa.
