Nemonte Nenquimo: Una de las 100 mujeres más influyentes del mundo según la BBC en 2020.

Ella se llama Nemonte Nenquimo, tiene 35 años  y fue una de las ganadoras del premio Goldman en el 2020. Este premio es como el nobel del medio ambiente. Ella es la representante de la nacionalidad indígena waorani en Ecuador.

Fue distinguida por su trabajo y colaboración a favor de la conservación, defensa y protección de la naturaleza y los derechos ancestrales. Esta comunidad, de unos 5000 habitantes, vive en una zona de la selva amazónica en la que ya hace algunos años se estableció Petrobras y les cambió la vida para peor. Se sienten invadidos porque talan sus árboles y contaminan sus aguas.

Se puso a la cabeza de una campaña indígena y de una acción legal para proteger cerca de 200.000 hectáreas de la extracción de petróleo. Esto sentó un precedente para la defensa de los derechos de los indígenas en Ecuador e inspiró a que otras comunidades sigan sus pasos.

Y considera que su «liderazgo» y la «demanda judicial» sentaron un precedente para la defensa «de los derechos indígenas en Ecuador», que ha impulsado a otras etnias a «seguir sus pasos para proteger otras zonas de bosque de la extracción petrolera».

Además y ,no menos importante,  Nenquimo fue tapa de la revista Time p reconocida recientemente como una de las 100 personas más influyentes del mundo y por la BBC como una de las 100 mujeres más inspiradoras.

 Otro gran mérito es el de lograr que su historia y accionar trascienda y desde un lugar remoto su voz haya alcanzado el mundo.
