Chile: un artista callejero fue asesinado por Carabineros

El sur chileno amaneció conmovido por el asesinato de un joven malabarista. Según relatan los testigos Romero habría sido interceptado por la policía chilena, que le pidió que entregue su identificación. Tras la negativa recibió dos disparos de un efectivo, para luego ser abatido tras intentar responder al ataque. Los sucesos fueron registrados en video: el material fue difundido con rapidez en todo el país y el enojo popular fue inmediato.

En consecuencia, miles de personas se manifestaron en Panguipulli para incendiar los edificios públicos. La protesta dejó en llamas una decena de edificios incendiados. Rodrigo Valdivia, intendente del pequeño pueblo sureño, culpó a Carabineros de los sucesos y mostró su enojo ante la falta de protección hacia la Municipalidad. Tras ser entrevistado por medios locales apuntó : “-Carabineros- Se dedicó solo a atrincherarse en la quinta comisaría, que ya había sido afectada por intento de saqueos, en desmedro de nuestra municipalidad”.

El suceso reactivó las protestas en el país trasandino, que desde 2019 atraviesa reacciones civiles contra la fuerza policial. El último incidente que protagonizó Carabineros data de octubre pasado, cuando un joven de 16 años fue empujado al Río Mapocho por un efectivo. Este último fue removido del cargo y acusado por «Homicidio frustrado».

Pese a los intentos del Gobierno de Sebastián Piñera por contener los estallidos sociales, el descontento popular hacia la fuerza parece ir in crescendo. Lucía Lambert, socióloga chilena, opinó en relación a Carabineros: “Es una institución donde la autoridad se consolida por la violencia y la obediencia. El legado post dictadura y limitada capacidad política les permitió desarrollar autonomía en democracia. Chile hoy necesita un modelo distinto de policía”. En consonancia, la institución enfrenta diversas denuncias por violar derechos humanos.

«Carabineros sólo usa su arma de fuego como último recurso frente a una amenaza inminente a su integridad física o su vida. Y si era la única forma de repelerla, hay que investigar”, declaró el Ministro de Interior chileno. Por lo pronto, el policía acusado de los disparos fue detenido y puesto a disposición judicial.
