Hace algunos meses, Chile fue uno de los países de la región que mejor resistió la primer ola de Covid-19. Sin embargo, la segunda ola golpeó bruscamente al pueblo chileno, que registra 9000 casos detectados por día.

Pese a la eficacia en la vacunación -Chile es el tercer país con mayor porcentaje de personas que han recibido al menos una dosis- y los esfuerzos para reconvertir las unidades sanitarias, el sistema de salud chileno tiene ocupadas el 97% de sus camas críticas.

De los 19 millones de chilenos, 7.4 fueron inoculados. Sin embargo, recientemente se demostró que la vacuna utilizada -la china Sinovac- posee una efectividad cercana al 50%.

Otro de los grandes problemas que enfrenta Chile es el desgaste de su personal de salud: tras realizar labores extenuantes el 25% del cuerpo médico está de licencia.

De las 4158 camas de cuidado intensivo que posee Chile, 3203 están ocupadas por casos de Covid-19. El resto son utilizadas por pacientes de otras patologías críticas, cuyos tratamientos habían sido postergados el año pasado.
