La historia de Rosa Rodríguez y su hijo Marcos puede rotularse como un gran acto de amor: Rosa, de 59 años, sufre de cirrosis hepática y por eso mismo su hijo se comprometió a donarle el 60% de su hígado.

Florencia González, hermana de Marcos, reveló que cuando diagnosticaron a su madre todos los hermanos fueron consultados sobre la posibilidad de donar. La respuesta fue contundente: todos querían ayudar a su mamá, pero no todos podían. Tras realizarse los estudios para determinar la compatibilidad encontraron que solamente Marcos, un joven de 26 años, podía salvarle la vida a su madre.

Ambos se someterán a una intervención quirúrgica que durará 12 horas: los miedos están latentes pero el deseo de recuperar la salud de su madre los impulsa. Al principio Rosa era atendida en San Luis, aunque su cuadro agravó y fue derivada en tiempo récord a la Fundación Favaloro, remarcó Florencia. Destacó la acción de María Laura Garrido, la especialista en Hepatología del Hospital San Luis: ella realizó las gestiones a gran velocidad y logró salvar la vida de esta vecina de San Luis.

¿Cómo surgió la posibilidad de un donante?

Florencia explicó que la cirrosis que sufre su madre es una enfermedad autoinmune. El hermano de Rosa sufrió la misma enfermedad y murió a la espera de un trasplante. Por eso desde la Fundación Favaloro le propusieron una solución novedosa. «A mi mamá le hicieron todos los estudios para ponerla en la lista de espera para el trasplante y ahí nos comentaron que existía una opción muy novedosa que no se hace en todo el mundo, pero en Argentina, por suerte, hay doctores pioneros en esto. Se trata de que una persona adulta y sana done aproximadamente el 60% de su hígado para un paciente que lo necesite. La operación es larga, dura 12 horas, porque son dos personas», comentó Florencia.

La joven relató que la enfermedad avanzó mucho sobre su madre, que sufrió de diabetes, al punto de no poder caminar y hablar muy poco. Aunque la cirrosis hepática es muy común, es una enfermedad de la que se habla poco. Sin embargo, la familia está esperanzada y considera que su madre está en manos de los mejores.

Rosa ya tiene su donante y será operada en la Fundación Favaloro por un equipo de médicos pioneros, pero todavía requiere una ayuda de la comunidad. Florencia explicó que necesitan donaciones de sangre: quienes deseen ayudar a Rosa pueden acercarse a la Fundación Hemocentro, en la avenida Díaz Vélez 3973, en la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires.
