El avance talibán sobre Afganistán significó el final de 20 años de ocupación estadounidense. Cuando el triunfo se consolidó en la ocupación del gobierno, Estados Unidos emprendió su caótica retirada. La partida fue apresurada, desordenada y desprolija.

La forma en que Estados Unidos dejó suelo afgano se refleja en esta foto: dejaron abandonados a los perros que sirvieron durante años en las tropas militares. Los animales fueron dejados en el Aeropuerto de Kabul: sin comida, sin agua y sin esperanzas.

La inanición enloquece a los pobres caninos, que durante años fueron los más fieles soldados. «Este es el pago de la lealtad», comentó en Twitter el escritor Arturo Pérez-Reverte. El español se desempeñó como corresponsal de guerra durante años y fue testigo de la derrota norteamericana.
