Etiquetado Frontal: los únicos perdedores somos los consumidores
El proyecto, que tiene media sanción en el Senado, no pudo ser tratado ayer en el Congreso. La oposición jugó su carta y no dio quórum para sesionar una iniciativa que persigue el acceso a la información y el cuidado de la salud de una nación entera.
¿En que medida cabe pensar que la no participación es la tarea de nuestros representantes? Con esa pregunta inicia este editorial, nacido fruto de lo sucedido ayer en el Congreso de la Nación. Paradójicamente, la primer sesión presencial en un año y medio tuvo más congresistas detrás de las cortinas que en las bancas a las que llegó por favor del pueblo, a quienes se deben.
Ayer debía tratarse el proyecto de Ley de Promoción de Alimentación Saludable: la iniciativa busca un consumo de alimentos más consciente para los consumidores, mediante un etiquetado que explicite la presencia de nutrientes críticos para la salud, tales como grasas totales, grasas saturadas, sodio, azúcares y/o calorías. Los octógonos negros serían así vía veraz, clara y oportuna para que cuando uno vaya a la góndola sepa que está por comer. Aunque para el consumidor saber que va a comer siempre es una buena noticia, no lo es tanto para las empresas que los fabrican, que juegan con la letra chica y nos ofrecen «lobos disfrazados de corderos».
Esas estrategias comerciales nos acompañan desde las infancias: fuimos educados en este consumo, y se nos enseñó a conectar productos -las más de las veces ultraprocesados y excedidos en nutrientes críticos- con situaciones ritualizadas. Lo dicho no significa una demonización del producto, sino que denuncia la poca información con la que solemos adquirirlos. Cabe preguntarse: si supiéramos que comemos, ¿en qué medida lo comeríamos? El beneficio para la ciudadanía es una contrariedad para los empresarios, que poblaron los palcos del Congreso y se resistieron a la implantación de un proyecto que ayer podría haber sido ley.
¿Qué consumimos? Eso mismo se han preguntado ya algunos de nuestros vecinos del sur: reglamentaciones similares ya rigen en los países hermanos, y el rechazo a este derecho para la salud es una deuda que nuestros representantes mantienen ya con la ciudadanía.
¿Quiénes se resistieron a tratar la ley?
Lo vivido ayer fue una demostración de como lo humano queda a un costado cuando juegan otros intereses. La negociación entre oficialismo y oposición fue poco fértil: quienes quedaron tras bambalinas alegaron que la falta de consenso sobre el temario los llevó a no participar. En total, 122 diputados dieron el presente, quedando a 7 de la cantidad mínima para sesionar: quienes se opusieron fueron delatados cuando se pasó lista.
Pocos después, con la sesión ya caída, ofrecieron participar de la sesión pero a cambio de tratar los temas que querían poner en la mesa. La lista de los ausentes se compone así:
- 112 legisladores de Juntos por el Cambio: aunque muchos habían manifestado su apoyo al proyecto, solo Claudia Najul y Federico Zamarbide rompieron con la decisión de interbloque y quisieron sesionar la ley.
- 5 diputados del Frente de Todos.
- Los integrantes de Córdoba Federal y Consenso Federal.
¿Qué hacer ante este escenario?
La salida, la búsqueda y la intención residen en como concebimos la alimentación. El futuro, es mi deseo, la encontrará más lejos del consumo y más cerca de la salud, con una ciudadanía activa y hambrienta de hacer valer sus derechos. Pese al papelón de ayer, crece entre los ciudadanos una concepción de la alimentación como una actividad cultural, colectiva y política. Esa semilla fue tirada hace tiempo y la velocidad con que se cosechen esos frutos dependerá del involucramiento de una sociedad que cada vez más se preocupa por alimentarse de forma consciente.
