Vecinos de Villa Mercedes transformaron un basural en una huerta comunitaria

Se trata de vecinos y vecinas del barrio Las Mirandas. El terreno funcionaba como basural clandestino y ahora no solo es tierra de cultivos, sino de aprendizajes.

La historia de «Pichintún» -o niño en idioma mapuche- es la de una transformación y una segunda oportunidad para un terreno que solía funcionar como basural clandestino en el barrio Las Mirandas. Así fue hasta que vecinos y vecinas de la zona comenzaron a limpiarlo, trabajaron la tierra y armaron una huerta comunitaria, donde también juntan residuos orgánicos. Ahora el lugar no solo cultiva vegetales y hortalizas: también es tierra de aprendizajes.

Marina Ibáñez y Gastón Andino se encargan de cuidar el lugar a diario: comentaron que la iniciativa comenzó en abril y desde entonces no dejó de sumarse gente para colaborar. Los encargados explicaron que el terreno es de un vecino que quería venderlo. Sin embargo, cuando le propusieron usar la tierra para cultivar y compostar le agradó la idea.

 “Desde un principio se sumaron muchos vecinos. Cuando nos dieron el permiso para armar la huerta, ayudaron cerrando el lugar, nos trajeron postes y otros materiales. Además armamos una compostera vecinal. Para ello juntamos residuos orgánicos como las cáscaras de huevos, restos de verduras, el material que contienen los saquitos de té, entre otras cosas. Esto es más que nada para armar un microclima en la huerta», añadió Marina.

Suelo fértil

Marina contó que ya cosecharon apio, acelga, rabanitos, y hierbas como menta, artemisa y cedrón. «Pichintún» es la tierra donde los más pequeños van a aprender: junto a la colectiva «Corazón de Tierra» brindan diversos talleres a los pequeños de la ciudad.

Además, remarcaron que todos los cultivos se manejan bajo principios agroecológicos: en «Pichintún» no hay lugar para pesticidas y químicos que afecten la naturaleza. La iniciativa ya contagió a varios de los vecinos que se organizan en barriadas para cuidar el lugar, y ya buscan nuevos terrenos en Villa Mercedes para replicar este tipo de proyectos.
