Más de 365 días tuvieron que transcurrir para que Roger Federer volviera a competir. El ex número 1 de 39 años pasó dos veces por el quirófano, debido a la lesión que aquejaba su rodilla. Pese a que tiempo atrás desestimó su presencia en el Australian Open, sostuvo que ahora si siente su rodilla confiable y lista para competir.

El abierto de Doha siempre le sentó bien: en tierra qatarí se consagró 3 veces -2005,2006 y 2011- y se erige como el máximo ganador de la competición. Se estima que lo tomará como una preparación para Wimbledon y los Juegos Olímpicos. La única presea que el Suizo no ha conseguido es la medalla dorada en singles, ya que obtuvo el oro en dobles en 2008.

En relación a su vuelta Su Majestad declaró: «Es mi primer intento de regresar a un torneo. Era importante, para el equipo y para mí, que fuese un pequeño torneo y no uno grande, con todo el estrés que ello implica». El regreso supone todo un desafío para el actual número 5 del ranking ATP, y quienes disfrutamos del buen juego ansiamos verlo en el court nuevamente.
