A lo largo de su vida y su carrera, Chick disfrutó de la libertad y de la diversión que se tenía en crear algo nuevo, y en jugar a los juegos que hacen los artistas. Quienes lo conocieron destacan que tuvo una faceta familiar intensa, muy querido por su esposa, hijos y nietos, fue considero por sus colegas como un gran mentor y amigo. A través de su trabajo y las décadas que pasó recorriendo el mundo, tocó e inspiró la vida de millones de personas
En su carta de despedida decía “Quiero agradecer a todos los que a lo largo de mi viaje me han ayudado a mantener ardiendo los fuegos de la música. Es mi esperanza que aquellos que tengan el impulso de tocar, escribir, actuar o lo que sea, lo hagan. Si no por ustedes, por el resto de nosotros. No es solo que el mundo necesita artistas, es también muy divertido. Y para mis asombrosos amigos músicos, que han sido como una familia para mí desde que los conozco: ha sido una bendición y un honor aprender de ustedes, tocar con todos ustedes. Mi misión fue siempre provocar el disfrute de la creación allí donde estuviera, y hacerlo con todos los artistas que admiro tan profundamente: esa ha sido la riqueza de mi vida”
Chick Corea es y fue un genio del jazz, su padre músico fue uno de los que influyó en su deseo artística, y ya desde niño aprendió a tocar el piano con tan sólo cuatro años . En la década de los sesenta integró varias de las mejores bandas de jazz en Estados Unidos, con las que pudo compartir escenario junto a músicos latino como el cubano Mongo Santamaría, iniciando así su carrera en el Latin Jazz y no tuvo miedo de experimentar con varios estilos de jazz, desde lo electrónico hasta lo más clásico o folclórico, convirtiéndose en un referente del jazz fusión.
Ha grabado y tocado con miles de artistas como Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Avishai Cohen, Wayne Shorter, Gary Burton, Roy Haynes, Quincy Jones y hasta incluso con el dominicano Rubén Blades.
Rompió todos los esquemas y modelos tradicionales del jazz, tocó con los grandes, grabó todo lo que pudo, se distinguió por su libertad creativa, ganó un montón de premios Grammy. Es el cuarto músico más nominado de la historia – gracias a su visión, estilos como el jazz fussion, el free jazz y el jazz rock cobraron vida y ahí están, vivos. Como su música.
