Los ‘millennials’ y los académicos cuestionan cada vez más el mito del amor romántico y exclusivo. ¿Va la monogamia camino de convertirse en algo anticuado?

En el pasado, los humanos éramos mucho más libres con nuestros afectos, pero cuando nuestros ancestros se establecieron para trabajar la tierra, tener relaciones sexuales con varias personas dejó de estar de moda.

A primera vista, tener una sola pareja durante toda la vida parece una idea bastante mala, al menos desde el punto de vista evolutivo.

El esperma es abundante y no se tarda mucho en producirlo, así que a un macho no lo beneficia mucho invertir en una sola hembra, a la que le llevará un largo tiempo reproducirse.

 Por estas razones, la monogamia es extremadamente rara entre los mamíferos y muchos otros grupos animales.

La monogamia (del griego mónos, ‘uno’, y gamos, ‘unión’), en el mundo animal, se refiere a la relación de la pareja que mantiene un vínculo sexual exclusivo durante el período de reproducción y crianza (de las crías).

Pero si la monogamia no es tan útil, ¿por qué se convirtió en una forma de vida favorecida por tantas culturas?

 En los humanos, la monogamia es un modelo de relaciones afectivo-sexuales basado en un ideal de exclusividad sexual por un periodo de tiempo indefinido entre dos personas unidas por un vínculo sancionado por el matrimonio, por la ley o por el derecho consuetudinario. Al practicante o creyente en este modelo de relación se le llama monógamo. En cambio Poliamor es un neologismo que se usa para referirse a una relación amorosa, de manera simultánea, de tres o más personas, con consentimiento y conocimiento de todos los involucrados.​​ Sus practicantes hacen énfasis en la honestidad y transparencia con todos los involucrados.


¿Qué es exactamente el poliamor?

El poliamor consiste en amar a varias personas a la vez, de forma consensuada, consciente y ética. Quienes lo defienden consideran que el amor no tiene que estar restringido, porque si quieres a alguien deseas lo mejor para esa persona y eso incluye poder ampliar su vida amorosa y sentimental. La única condición es el amor entre las personas y la aceptación de la relación por parte de todas ellas.

¿Qué pautas hay en una relación poliamorosa?

En las relaciones amorosas suelen existir reglas y acuerdos que definen lo que las personas esperan de la relación y qué comportamientos son aceptables. Estas reglas son muy variadas, ya que no existen dos relaciones poliamorosas iguales. Las personas que participan en la relación pueden acordar libremente sus condiciones. En general, se suele recomendar que estas reglas sean flexibles para que puedan revisarse a medida que la relación evoluciona.
