«Steampunk»: la fusión entre lo clásico y lo moderno
Sin lugar a dudas la literatura ha tenido una profunda influencia sobre gran parte de las aristas de nuestra vida: la moda, el arte, incluso la arquitectura, sometidas al ojo de la escritura suelen producir mundos imaginados que nos transportan en viajes de ensueño por mundos distópicos, aventuras en paraísos selváticos, escenarios post apocalípticos, y por que no, una mixtura entre dos mundos cercanos, pero distintos, como es el caso del Steampunk.
Inspirado en las obras de Julio Verne, Mary Shelley y H.G. Wells, el Steampunk nos transporta a un universo cargado de modernidad, pero en la era del vapor, anclado en un mundo victoriano, recargado, solemne, pero tecnocrático. Algo que por otro lado caracterizó también a esa época, donde un naciente y pujante capitalismo sorprendía a la humanidad con sus máquinas y sus invenciones.
El Steampunk es una estética que busca fusionar lo antiguo con lo moderno, pero no en cualquier época, retrocede a la época victoriana (1837 -1901) en Inglaterra dominada por el vapor (steam) y de ahí, la evolución de forma futurista y distorsionada continua un camino paralelo al nuestro. Se avanza, pero en otro universo, otro camino, y otra posibilidad distinta a la que fue.
La terminación Punk está vinculada a la crítica y a la propuesta de algo que rompe con una estructura. Esta estética se puede encontrar en la vestimenta, en medios de transporte, en arquitectura, en aparatos. Sus adeptos sienten un rechazo a la producción en masa, a la estética de moda actual, a los objetos obsoletos, el conformismo y se identifican con aquello más artesanal y duradero.
Una máquina Steampunk tiene una función, es prácticamente irrompible, tiene diseño propio, es una obra de arte en sí misma. Hoy podemos ver esta estética en el arte, coleccionistas, desarrolladores de objetos, de ropa. Es un movimiento que, desde su creación en la década del 60’ y 70´ no ha parado de crecer. Atrás han quedado sus orígenes literarios y hoy ya está presente, como movimiento artístico y cultural, en el cine con éxitos como La liga Extraordinaria (2003), el clásico animado El castillo en el cielo (1986) de Miyazaki, o La brújula dorada.
El Steampunk sigue siendo una fuente inagotable de inspiración y tiene un público fiel alrededor del mundo. En Argentina pueden encontrarse diseñadores de moda que recrean este estilo, casas de cosplay, y círculos de jugadores de rol que crean aventuras en este fantástico y aterrador universo, incorporando muchas de las subvariantes como el SteamGoth o el WeirdWest.
