Una investigación realizada por la Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Argentina reveló las siguientes cifras: solo el 14,5% de los argentinos lo usan en todas sus relaciones y el 65% lo usa ocasionalmente. Mientras tanto, el 20,5% restante reconoció no usarlo nunca. Los especialistas ven que los números son alarmantes y creen que la falencia radica en el tabú que conlleva la educación sexual.

Una de las especialistas consultadas fue Analía Urretavizcaya, integrante del equipo de Sexología del Hospital de Clínicas. Urretavizcaya se mostró preocupada por el bajo índice de uso, ya que el 98% de las infecciones sexuales ocurren por la falta o el mal uso de los profilácticos.

En una entrevista con Télam la especialista afirmó: «Madres, padres, tíos, abuelos, todos los adultos tienen que trasmitir la importancia de su utilización, para ello es fundamental que primero adquieran ellos mismos el hábito en sus relaciones sexuales, de principio a fin».

Para Urretavizcaya resulta preocupante el tabú que encierra el acto sexual, porque afecta la forma en que se habla con los más pequeños. Para ella el uso del preservativo debe inculcarse al igual que otros hábitos de cuidado personal. En este sentido, remarcó: «Le enseñamos a los niños desde chiquitos a lavarse los dientes, aun cuando estos son de leche, para que incorporen el hábito de hacerlo y durante toda su infancia y adolescencia se lo seguimos recordando, con el uso del preservativo tiene que pasar lo mismo».

El uso incorrecto del condón también tiene un índice elevado en Argentina.

Otra problemática común es el mal uso del profiláctico: muchos lo utilizan de forma incorrecta, se lo quitan o lo usan solo en algunos momentos del sexo. Todos estos errores pueden provocar embarazos no deseados y contagiar Enfermedades de Transmisión Sexual, como el VIH. Está aconsejado su uso en prácticas penetratorias vaginales, anales y en el sexo oral.

Urretavizcaya sostuvo que la formación temprana es esencial. En este sentido, afirmó: «Es necesario introducir el conocimiento de este hábito a los 10 u 11 años, antes que los chicos empiecen a tener relaciones sexuales, de este modo la información se procesa con tiempo y se incorpora». Sin embargo, la pandemia provocó que este año prácticamente no se dicten clases de ESI.
